Activate a license on your own infrastructure
Use the License screen in the Cortega console after installing AI Border Gateway on your local hardware or in your own cloud account. The same installation supports free and paid licenses; you do not need a separate Enterprise build. A deployment without a valid activated license has no activated capabilities.
Before you start
- Sign in as an administrator with platform write access. In a multi-tenant deployment, use an administrator in the System tenant (Tenant 0).
- Open License in the console navigation.
- Choose connected activation or obtain a signed airgapped license from Cortega sales.
Request a license for a connected installation
- On the License screen, click Request License under Activate your License.
- Enter your full name, company, and business email, plus the relevant contact details. A personal email address is not accepted by this form.
- Choose I want to use Cortega for Free, or the option to be contacted for an Enterprise or airgapped license. Select the products you need.
- Submit Request License. The screen shows the pending request ID.
- Allow Cortega to fulfill the request. The installation checks with Cortega Cloud Manager about once a minute and activates when the license is ready. Some requests require follow-up from Cortega.
- Verify that the License screen shows Licensed: Yes and the expected edition, features, and limits.
The request form and connected activation require internet access. Connected licenses continue to check with Cortega Cloud Manager; use an airgapped license for an installation that must operate without that connection.
Install a signed token, including an airgapped license
For a disconnected deployment, obtain the signed airgapped license using a connected device and transfer the token into your environment through your approved process. The in-app request form cannot submit while disconnected.
- Open License and find Apply a license.
- Paste the complete signed license token issued by Cortega into the text box.
- Click Preview. Review the edition, expiry, limits, and enabled features. Review any warnings about an earlier expiry, lower edition, or removed features.
- Click Apply this license.
- Check for Saved. Status updated above., then verify Licensed: Yes. For an airgapped token, verify Airgapped: Yes.
An airgapped token is verified and activated locally without contacting Cortega Cloud Manager. It takes effect without a restart and is saved in the installation's database so it survives restarts. Preserve that database when backing up or moving the deployment.
A connected token follows a different path: applying it creates a pending request for Cortega Cloud Manager activation. Keep the installation connected and verify activation on the License screen; pasting a connected token does not make it an airgapped license.
Renew or replace a license
Apply the replacement token using Preview and Apply this license. The new token's own limits and expiry replace the previous license when it becomes active; remaining time is not added to the new license. For connected tokens, the current active license remains in force while the new request is pending.
Use Expires, Usage and limits, and Features to confirm the result. Renew an airgapped installation by transferring and applying a new airgapped token. The License screen remains available for renewal when the control plane is read-only.
Troubleshooting
| What you see | What to check |
|---|---|
| License screen is missing or Apply is unavailable | Use an account with platform permissions; changes require platform write access. In multi-tenant deployments, use Tenant 0. |
| Token invalid | Paste the complete token supplied by Cortega. Do not edit its contents; request a corrected token if verification fails. |
| Request pending | Wait for fulfillment. For a connected license, check connectivity to Cortega Cloud Manager and provide the request ID when contacting Cortega. |
| Airgapped is No | Request an airgapped token if the installation must run disconnected. |
| A feature is unavailable | Check the active license's Features and limits, and whether it has expired. |
| Failed to persist the license | Resolve the reported database problem and apply again; an unsaved license may not survive a restart. |
Remove clears the applied license and returns the installation to an unlicensed state with no activated capabilities. Use it only when you intend to remove the license.
